Researcher J.Leia Lima will lead a discussion exploring women’s aesthetics, cosmetics, hair, corsets, gowns, and accessories starting from the 1790s into the 1820s. The presentation will be followed by a guided tour of the current MJM exhibitions: The Loves of Aaron Burr and The Arts of Beauty. This presentation will show you how to style yourself like Eliza Jumel, Josephine Bonaparte, and Jane Austin during the first quarter of the nineteenth century to prepare for the Regency Dance Workshop. Regency Dance Workshop
Dance historian Susan de Guardiola will instruct participants on choreography from the early nineteenth century, which will be followed by a night of dancing in MJM’s historic Octagonal Drawing Room. Beginners are welcome; the program is for ages 12 and up. Costumes are encourages but not required. Please wear flats or low heels with a soft sole.
