These guide\u00adlines have been post\u00aded on the main notice board in the build\u00ading\u2019s Lob\u00adby. Appro\u00adpri\u00adate recy\u00adcling bins are avail\u00adable in the des\u00adig\u00adnat\u00aded area on the build\u00ading premis\u00ades.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Every build\u00ading in New York City is required by law to recy\u00adcle. The Sol\u00adid Waste Man\u00adage\u00adment Act of 1988 requires com\u00adpre\u00adhen\u00adsive recy\u00adcling in New York State. New York City ben\u00ade\u00adfits not only envi\u00adron\u00admen\u00adtal\u00adly, but also eco\u00adnom\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly from recy\u00adcling. New York\u00aders must not lose the ben\u00ade\u00adfits of recy\u00adcling by let\u00adting up on pru\u00addent waste man\u00adage\u00adment prac\u00adtices. Accord\u00ading to New York State Attor\u00adney Gen\u00ader\u00adal Elliot Spitzer, \u201cRecy\u00adcling is unques\u00adtion\u00adably one of the most impor\u00adtant efforts we make to con\u00adserve nat\u00adur\u00adal resources and reduce our depen\u00addence on land\u00adfills and incin\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtors \u2014 recy\u00adcling makes enor\u00admous eco\u00adnom\u00adic and envi\u00adron\u00admen\u00adtal sense and I am ful\u00adly com\u00admit\u00adted to expand\u00ading and enforc\u00ading recy\u00adcling laws so that we can real\u00adize their full ben\u00ade\u00adfits.\u201d<\/p>\n

      Mul\u00adti-Unit and Apart\u00adment Build\u00adings<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Res\u00adi\u00adden\u00adtial build\u00ading owners\/landlords<\/strong> must noti\u00adfy ten\u00adants about recy\u00adcling require\u00adments, des\u00adig\u00adnate an acces\u00adsi\u00adble recy\u00adcling area, and main\u00adtain signs explain\u00ading what and how to recy\u00adcle. The Depart\u00adment of San\u00adi\u00adta\u00adtion rec\u00adom\u00admends that land\u00adlords pro\u00advide new ten\u00adants with recy\u00adcling infor\u00adma\u00adtion with their lease, and remind ten\u00adants about their recy\u00adcling respon\u00adsi\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adties with lease renewals.<\/p>\n


      \nAll ten\u00adants<\/strong> are required to keep recy\u00adclables sep\u00ada\u00adrate from reg\u00adu\u00adlar garbage and recy\u00adcle accord\u00ading to their build\u00ading man\u00adage\u00adment instruc\u00adtions in prop\u00ader\u00adly col\u00adored and labeled recep\u00adta\u00adcles.<\/p>\n

      Recy\u00adcling vio\u00adla\u00adtions car\u00adry fines of $25 (first Notice), $50 (sec\u00adond Notice), $100 (third Notice), and $500 (four or more Notices with\u00adin a six-month peri\u00adod).<\/p>\n

      Build\u00adings with ten or more apart\u00adments that receive four or more Notices of Vio\u00adla\u00adtion with\u00adin a six-month peri\u00adod will be fined $500 for each bag that vio\u00adlates recy\u00adcling reg\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtions, up to a max\u00adi\u00admum of 20 bags with\u00adin a 24-hour peri\u00adod.
