Do not assume the fire has been report\u00aded unless fire\u00adfight\u00aders are on the scene<\/li>\n<li>Call the super\u00adin\u00adten\u00addent at <strong>(917) 731\u20110891<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Meet the mem\u00adbers of your house\u00adhold at a pre-deter\u00admined loca\u00adtion out\u00adside the build\u00ading. Noti\u00adfy the fire\u00adfight\u00aders if any\u00adone is unac\u00adcount\u00aded for.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid pan\u00adic \u2013 stay\u00ading calm can be life-sav\u00ading<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>IF THE FIRE IS NOT IN YOUR APARTMENT<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Feel your apart\u00adment door and door\u00adknob for heat. If they are not hot, open the door slight\u00adly and check the hall\u00adway for smoke, heat or fire<\/li>\n<li>Exit the apart\u00adment and build\u00ading if you can safe\u00adly do so, fol\u00adlow\u00ading the instruc\u00adtions above for a fire in your apart\u00adment<\/li>\n<li>If the hall\u00adway or stair\u00adwell is not safe because of smoke, heat, or fire and you have access to a fire escape, use it to exit the build\u00ading. Pro\u00adceed cau\u00adtious\u00adly on the fire escape and always car\u00adry or hold onto small chil\u00addren.<\/li>\n<li>If you can\u00adnot use the stairs or the fire escape, call 911 and tell them your address, floor, apart\u00adment num\u00adber and the num\u00adber of peo\u00adple in your apart\u00adment.<\/li>\n<li>Seal the doors to your apart\u00adment with wet tow\u00adels or sheets, and seal air ducts or oth\u00ader open\u00adings where smoke may enter.<\/li>\n<li>Open win\u00addows a few inch\u00ades at top and bot\u00adtom unless flames and smoke are com\u00ading from below.<\/li>\n<li>Do not break any win\u00addows.<\/li>\n<li>If con\u00addi\u00adtions in the apart\u00adment appear life-threat\u00aden\u00ading, open a win\u00addow and wave a tow\u00adel or sheet to attract the atten\u00adtion of fire\u00adfight\u00aders.<\/li>\n<li>If smoke con\u00addi\u00adtions wors\u00aden before help arrives, get down on the floor and take short breaths through your nose.
